Forms of Dance

ALEX J DANCE STUDIO

Each style of dance will be taught and broken down at an introductory and beginner's level. As the students grasp the different techniques and show progress, the instructors wil raise the level of difficulty.

PRAISE​

Praise dance (also known as liturgical dance or worship dance) is a form of worship that seeks to articulate the word and spirit af God through the body. Students wil learn to use their bodies to interpret and demonstrate different messages within the song.



​MODERN​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

One of the most expressive forms of dance, modern incorporates various styles of movement and improvisation. In this class students will learn and study the Horton technique and the history of Lester Horton. Students will learn to use this technique to both strengthen and lengthen the body. They will also learn to explore different movements and how each variation fits their bodies through improvisation

 

JAZZ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Jazz dance is an upbeat, stylish and versatile form. In this class students will incorporate what they have learned in each class. The class consist of intensive strengthening warm ups, stretching techniques to elongate and encourage muscle strength, across the floor

​​​movements, leaps, turns and center combination work to fun and upbeat, recognizable music.

HIP-HOP ​​​​

hip hop is known for fast, athletic movements and lots of popping and jolting, as opposed to the fluid balletic types of dance. This class will include extensive strength training, coordination, skill exercises, endurance, flexibility activities, and combinations in the center to recognizable, age-appropriate music.

 

BALLET

Ballet is the fundamental, technical form from which all other dance styles stem. This class will introduce boys and girls to the fundamentals of classical ballet technique. Each class will focus on proper usage of muscles and posture, body positions, and alignment while also building on ballet vocabulary. Ballet classes include intensive barre work, center exercises, and patterns in movement across the floor; both allegro and adagio combinations and our students will be fluent in the terminolgy they have learned.
